Fuel 44, has partnered up with the Hotel De Anza for an evening of cocktails, games of chance and an amazing mix of live Afro-Latin music. Let your imagination drift and envision a 1950s era Caribbean Island nightclub and casino. Its a hot summer evening with a balmy breeze and you and your partner are dressed to the nines as the sound of Puerto Ricos Plena Libre, play with their powerful blend of Afro-Caribbean salsa. Music drifts in and out from the courtyard terrace where elegantly dressed guests glide effortlessly around the dance floor. Cocktails in hand, mingling in the Hedley Club, you take in the tropical rhythms of the Bay Areas best Latin DJs. Later you get lucky at one of the gaming tables, eat at the sophisticated La Pastaia restaurant or even spend the evening in one of Hotel De Anzas four star rooms. So if gaming for fun, dancing to world class music, and dressing to the nines for a night on the town sounds like a good time, then Fuels Summer Ball is an event for you.

Who Are They?

In just six years Plena Libre, led by bassist, arranger, composer and producer Gary Nez, has become a strong
force on the musical scene of Puerto Rico. Due to Plena Libre's boundless enthusiam and tireless efforts, plena is becoming a world rhythm and music.

Plena Libre was born out of plena jam sessions in which Gary Nez participated. In those sessions Gary began to focus on this rhythm, which had been brushed aside by the more popular salsa and merengue. He also decided to break this genre out of its folkloric mold.  Since then, this 13-piece band has been expanding the borders of plena music.

Their music work, often compared to such important acts such as Juan Luis Guerra, Buena Vista Social Club and Carlos Vives was a renewal of their folklore music taking it worldwide and because of their talent, energy and effort, Plena Libre has become the main force and showcase for the revival of plena in Puerto Rico (a traditional Puerto Rican rhythm which emerged from the island's African heritage).

This joyous dance music from Puerto Rico has been given new light and form by Plena
Libre's exciting arrangements, that combine traditional plena rhythmic patterns with the styles of contemporary music like songo, samba, pambiche and various dance floor rhythms. Add to that an energetic stage presentation and you have an extraordinary musical experience.

Since their formation, Plena Libre, has performed in thousands of shows in Puerto Rico, and have toured in the US, Europe and Asia, receiving extraordinary reviews for their
performances and for their 8 recordings that have generated over 15 hit songs and sold
hundreds of thousands copies on Puerto Rico alone.

Plena Libre became the first group to hit the charts with a plena tune in almost 15 years with "El Party" from their first recording Juntos y Revueltos (1994) (re-released by Rykolatino in 1998 for the international market) receiving extraordinary reviews. This group has also been the first to present a theatrical show based on plena music. In addition, their achievements include the use of a music video to promote plena, having a weekly TV program in Puerto Rico's main station (Telemundo), and participating in the prestigious Banco Popular Christmas Special.

Their three international releases with RykoLatino: "Plena Libre", "Juntos Y Revueltos" and "Ms Libre" have received reviews and achieved privileged positions in Puerto Rico and in the world music charts in Europe and USA.
